First Class and Natural Disasters!

Thursday 25th September, 2014

Hello everybody! It’s nice to see you again!

As we had already met and after at least six months (after a minimum of six months) sharing English classes together, there was no point in (it didn’t make sense) introducing each other, was it? So, we just caught up! (Catch up= update, telling about what we did). But before that we said hello to our new classmate, Paco. He is new in our class but we knew him because he also came to enjoy at Learn & Enjoy!
You had very interesting and funny summers! You went to the beach, to your family’s villages and some of you went on a school trip before the holidays.
Alejandro told us about his journey to Italy. Pilar and Óscar told us about their trip to Tarragona and the rest talked about Murcia, Cádiz, London …We have a class of travellers!
Great! Travelling broads the mind! (=it teaches you things about other cultures, people etc.)

After catching up, we started talking and learning about the power of nature. We did it with a communication exercise that consisted in completing a crossword by defining the words. I can’t believe that it was the first class and Alex and Jorge were already cheating!

Do you remember the meaning of these words? If not, look them up in the dictionary and learn them.

Weather / Nature

Natural Disasters
wind
earthquake
iceberg
avalanche
blizzard
flood
thunder
forest fire
landscape
landslide
lightning
tornado
mud
volcano
rainbow
tsunami
sunlight
hurricane

For homework, choose one of those natural disasters and write 5 or 6 sentences about it. How is it caused? How is the landscape affected?
How are people affected? Can you give an example of where and when it happened?

And we finished our first class telling a story.
We threw eight dice with different pictures on each side. The pictures we got were: a house, a key, an apple, a fish, an arrow, a crescent (moon), a hand and a magnet …
Your story started with a boy and a girl staying in the girl’s house … and ended with zombies taking out (extracting) the vital organs of humans with a magnet! What was in the middle of the story?

See you on Thursday.

PS: Remember that you can use the blog to post comments, your news, how you feel, what you do …whatever you like! Always in English, please!!!!

Today I feel happy because it's SATURDAY!!!
